The Jumpoff 09.23.08

By Afolabi

Hola people! I've been away for a couple days celebrating, so now i'm back with a couple of tracks so you can get on the celebration train with me.  This will continue all week, cos i'm celebrating whether you are or not! ;)

Let's kick off the party with a Bobby Womack cover, performed by one of the top three bands in the world right now (seriously, find me any bands tighter than these guys, The Dap Kings, and the Egypt 80. i'll be waiting).  Their version is more New Birth than Bobby Womack, funkier.  Here's The Roots - I can understand it

We continue the groove with an artist that is relatively new to the scene.  She's got an old school sound, that's backed up a couple of tracks from "bigger" artist (jay-z's of the world), but her solo effort is solid, and she deserves to be heard.  Also, after just hitting the big 2-5, this is almost anthem-like for me.  Chrissette Michelle - Be OK

I love this next guy, he's got a new album coming out this month, Something Else, and this is the lead single of that album.  Robin Thicke - Magic

These next guys are a hiphop group of the Nigerian persuasion.  Thanks to my lil sis, i came across the video.  This is a new track from them, the title means "what's the big deal".  Naeto C - Kini big deal

Aight, that's it for the party today.  We'll close it out the way we started, with the original.  Which is how we like to keep it in these parts. New Birth - I can understand it

See you tomorrow with some new selections for ears.  Until then, be easy.

Role Models

By Afolabi

When you have Paul Rudd, Sean William Scott, Elizabeth Banks, Christopher Mintz-Plasse (aka McLovin), and a little black boy as your cast it pretty much guarantees that anyone with half a sense of humor will probably enjoy this.  There's a lot to this preview, my favorite part is when McLovin asks Paul Rudd if he'll be a member of the Xanthian army.  Piers Anthony would be proud.  Role Models - Coming Soon

The Jumpoff 10.24.08

By Afolabi

Happy Friday y'all. Welcome to the Friday installment of The Jumpoff!  I don't have much of an introduction this week, it's Friday let's get straight to business.

A-Side

The random obscure show continues.  This time again courtesy of some familiar culprits, Ghostface Killah, and Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band.  I already kind of went through the background info a couple days ago, so i won't bore you with anymore details and such.  The only thing left to say, if you come across a Dr. Buzzard's record anywhere in your travels make it yours... Ghost Showers/ Sunshower

B-Side

This next artist is not so obscure, but he is very random.  He's given the world such hits as 'Sex Bomb', 'She's a lady', and that forever immortalized thanks to Carlton, 'It's not unusual'.  Well, the open-button shirt, tight pants wearing crooner is back.  He'd been doing the Vegas thing for a bit, but upon the release of Amy Winehouse's 'Back to Black' album he realized there was a sound out there that he can still work like a cheap hooker.  This gave way to the birth of the new album, 24 Hours. I won't go into detail about the sound, just listen to it.  So here you have it, the new release from the knighted, yup it's Sir now, singer.  Sir Tom Jones - If he should ever leave you

So that concludes The Jumpoff this week.  Hope you have a wonderful weekend.  Until next time, be easy.

Fabulous Fest Recap

By George

So many great artists, so much music, non-stop dancing. Here are a couple that are still stuck in my head!

What the fuck?
They know what is what,
But they don't know what is what,
They just strut.

The Jumpoff 11.25.08 - Entourage Closing Credits

By Afolabi

In case you all out there haven't been paying attention, the latest season of Entourage just ended last Sunday.  I have to say, who ever is in charge of music selection for the show should be given some sort of award.  Few shows can use music to close out an episode like Entourage does.  So without further ado, welcome to The Jumpoff!

Entourage Season 5 Closing Credits

To anyone that's wondering, "wait that's not the full list".  You're correct.  The closer from episode 8 (Basic Vocab - Come get with me) is harder to come by than you would think.  But, never fear.  I have the entire playlist (YouTube format) available below if you must have it chronologically. So that's it for today. Hope the weather ain't keeping you down.  Until next time, be easy.
