Walking Balancing Robot by Boston Dynamics Big Dog
Published by: George on Friday 9th October 2009 09:10am
If you have any doubt that machines could ever really take over the
human race, take a look at this "simply" programmed robot which
battles gravity and terrain like a CHAMP. Now imagine all of the
other obstacles it cab be PROGRAMMED to encounter or avoid. Think
Terminator only without AI. What a lonely world it could be for
us... Too dark? Okay, then just imagine all the incredible hiking
this dood could do :)

Major Lazer - Pon de Floor (Amphibious Remix)
Published by: Afolabi on Tuesday 6th October 2009 05:10pm

If you follow us on the facebook or twitter you should probably have heard the original of this Major Lazer banger. But i'll bet you haven't heard this fresh off the presses remix by Amphibious of Flavorheard. Building off the ubiquitous percussion, Amphibious delivers a dancehall-afro-funk infused track that will surely make you wish it was Friday already. Seriously, listen to this a few times and you might find yourself wanting to listen to it more than the original. But i'm just sayin'.

Literature Review Writing Help: Few Tips On Conducting A Literature Review…
Published by: Rose on Monday 5th October 2009 04:10am
A literature review is an explanation of what has been published on
a subject by recognized researchers. Occasionally you will be asked
to write one as a separate assignment (sometimes in the form of an
annotated bibliography--, but more often it is part of the
introduction to an essay, research report, thesis or
dissertation.
Critical literature reviews help to write your literature review more effectively:
A literature review must do these things:
a.be organized around and related directly to the thesis or research question you are developing
b.synthesize results into a summary of what is and is not known
c.identify areas of controversy in the literature
d.formulate questions that need further research
Before writing literature review ask yourself questions like these:
1.What is the specific thesis, problem, or research question that my review of literature helps to define?
2.What type of literature review am I conducting? Am I looking at issues of theory? methodology? policy? quantitative research (e.g. on the effectiveness of a new procedure)? qualitative research (e.g., studies )?
3.What is the scope of my literature review? What types of publications am I using (e.g., journals, books, government documents, popular media)? What discipline am I working in (e.g., nursing psychology, sociology, medicine)?
4.How good was my information seeking? Has my search been wide enough to ensure I've found all the relevant material? Has it been narrow enough to exclude irrelevant material? Is the number of sources I've used appropriate for the length of my paper?
5.Have I critically analyzed the literature I use? Do I follow through a set of concepts and questions, comparing items to each other in the ways they deal with them? Instead of just listing and summarizing items, do I assess them, discussing strengths and weaknesses?
6.Have I cited and discussed studies contrary to my perspective?
7.Will the reader find my literature review relevant, appropriate, and useful?

The Jumpoff 09.29.09
Published by: Afolabi on Tuesday 29th September 2009 07:09pm
Welcome back ladies and gentlemen! It's been a bit. I haven't
really been on top of writing lately, as i'm sure some might have
noticed. I promise it's all been for good reason. We're
a year old now at The Highlife, and i thought i'd thank all of you
out there livin' the highlife with a Jumpoff. We're only just
getting started people, and it seemed fitting to kick it old school
to give you a glimpse of things to come on The Highlife. Take
for example, the image you're looking at right now. Created
by one of Boston's finest artists, Dan Szymanowski. You may not
know him yet; that'll change. But like i said, this is only
just a preview. Welcome to The Jumpoff!

A-Side
This British house duo has been making me dance since high school, but i kinda eased off their sound once college hit. Which would explain why i'd gone relatively unaware of their 2003 release, Kish Kash, for quite a while. Nevertheless, it made its way into my ears, and now it will make its way into yours. The juicy cuts at least. This is Basement Jaxx.
B-Side
Sometime last year i put up a post with the Entourage Season 5 closing credits soundtrack. They're not killin' it so much this year; the show's still good though. But the song from last week was absolutely solid. They dug deep to find an unreleased gem from the catalog of a music legend; I have nothing more to add... Marvin Gaye - Piece of Clay
And that'll do it for today. I can't say when next i'll be posting, but it'll be sooner rather than later. Live, love, be the highlife. Stay cool. Until next time, be easy.

Watch this short titled "The Butterfly Circus" and tell me it
doesn't change you a little bit. It actually brought me to
tears.
The creativity of some of these filmmakers is unbelievable. Check out some of the other film categories, especially joy & freedom.
