Adam Gibbons (Uhuru Afrika) put me on to a really awesome website recently, called AwesomeTapesfromAfrica (ATfA).  Literally an awesome collection of tapes made and found all over Africa, and compiled on to one website for your listening pleasure.  On there I came across Snr. Eddie Donkor's Eye Banker, which the author describes as "Perfect Ghanaian highlife from a legendary guitarist-bandleader. This is the best highlife album in my life right now. Synths and brotherly advice about money, women and gossip. Exactly."  You'll find the whole album and more on ATfA, but you can get started with the first two tracks from the album here.  Enjoy.

On 1/31 the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in Boston had a screening of Award Winning Commercials from the UK. The screening was quite entertaining and showed all the way through without any... er... commercial breaks...

The one ad that had me bustin' a gut was from Volkswagen Polo - Confidence. Make sure you have your volume up when you view this commercial.

 

The very first On Point post on THL was a feature on artist Fish McGill.  He's been doing his thing since then, but most recently is putting on a workshop that essentially asks the question.  What lies beneath?

"You are invited to join the installation & creation of a twelve foot Robot drawing on Monday-Thursday evenings in the Brant gallery in South Hall. Come help work on a giant drawing of a Robot's guts and gears on the a portion of the gallery walls through out the week.

Lessons on creating stencils and how to make wheat paste will be demonstrated on Thursday afternoon in the gallery followed by a Robot Birthday Party reception. Come and answer the age old question, "What is inside a Robot anyway?"; The collaborative drawing project will shine light on this subject. Computers, cell phones, weiner dogs, rocket parts, you name it and it is in there." ... No, seriously, "you name it and it is in there."
