Jen Mas does not need much of a preamble.  Her music is all the intro you need.  This DJ, Producer, Promoter from NYC has been conquering dance floors, halls, parties, clubs, and everything else in between forever.  She's also in charge of Vitus Productions, a collective of some of the best DJs/Producers you'll find anywhere.  This track was just released, and in her own words, it "covers a lot of ground as far as... musical tastes are concerned, and it was a chance... to do something different mix-wise too."  So people, strap yourselves in for the best thing to happen to you all week, and prepare to dance! All hail the Queen!

The Jumpoff 05.05.10 (Wande Coal + D'banj)

By Afolabi
Happy cinco people.  We are officially steaming towards summertime right now, so I thought i'd lay down a couple of tracks from the land of perpetual heat. Welcome to The Jumpoff!

A-Side
As far as the African continent is concerned Nigeria provides the swagger. This video does a lot to support that claim.  I heard the track at a wedding recently, and it destroyed the dance floor.  From Mushin by way of the reknowned Mo' Hits label, definitely keep your eyes on this artist.

Speaking of swagger, this track literally comes out and lets you know all about it.  The title essentially means "uncontrollably hot", and the track is by one of the biggest names on the African/Nigerian music scene right now. Even my eight year old cousin in Dallas knows the deal. Don't hate...

On Point: Off Track Vol. III (Kon & Amir)

Experience.
"If you have it you don't need it.  If you need it you don't have it...  You need it to get it, and you certainly need it to get more of it... you can't fake it... the point is, if you've never had any of it. Ever.  People just seem to know."*
Kon (Boston) & Amir (NYC) are known around the most knowledgeable music circles as the "kings of crate digging", and the moniker certainly stands true.  I don't think they've ever played a bad set.  Ever!  Out now through BBE Music is their latest work, Off Track Vol III: Brooklyn.  Do yourself a favor and get a copy (HERE).  From classic soul, to disco, to afrobeat, and rare everything in between; anything they put out is a lesson in music, taste, and class.  Listen to Strong Love (Kon) and Brasil (Amir), you'll see.  These are true individuals with a collective sense of truth.  The truth that lies between the grooves of the wax disc. And as the saying goes, "the truth shall set you free."  Get loose and give respect where it's due.

On Point: 7PM Pacific Time (BREK.ONE)

By Afolabi
BrekOne 7pm pacific time.jpg                            "the power of intention... meaning nobody's gonna get in the way"

Over the past few months or so we've been shining the spotlight on a select few DJs/Producers that epitomize the true heart of what Boston is like on the ground and beneath.  Right now the shine is on DJ and designer BREK.ONE.  He's been tearing up decks and working up sweats in and around the city for a while now.  Just ask around.  Recorded live in one take, with just two turntables, a mixer, and an effects pedal.  Here's his latest mix, 7 PM Pacific Time; what i like to call "the god hour".  As we proceed to give you what you need, step aside and behold genius at work.

New Music: The Full Script (Zone Fam & Teckzilla)

By Afolabi

Teckzilla's at it again.  The production genius behind the Str8 Buttah collective recently teamed up with a crew of Zambian hiphoppers, Zone Fam, to deliver The Full Script.  I dig Zone Fam, but Teck kills it on the beats; front to back!  Here's are some highlights.

The Jumpoff 04.15.10 (Consequence+Pitbull)

By Afolabi
In case you forgot, happy tax deadline day friends!  Or you could be one of the few without the burden of taxation.  Either way, it's funny the things that concern you as you grow up.  Which brings us to today's selections.  Welcome to The Jumpoff!

A-Side
Here's a rapper that's all business.  Cutting his chops at age 16 on A Tribe called Quest's 1993 release Midnight Marauders, he eventually ended up on Kanye West's GOOD Music label in 2005.  This is his latest single from 2010's Movie On Demand.

Back to the things you concern yourself with growing up.  The thought process that goes into songwriting is one thing that i certainly wonder about, especially when it comes to this song.  I've always liked this artist's work.  No nonsense dance music to make you sweat from head to toe.  Plus, for this new album he goes back to a tried and tested production collaboration with Lil Jon; but i've got to wonder now if he's got Jon writing his lyrics too.  Who knows, it's worked before.

From the mind of the supremely multifaceted MC, DJ, and producer (DJ Voltran) drops this raucous dubsteb mix.  Just in time for breaking into the warmer weather; this is all-purpose music.  Always good.
